Primal Pizza Mark III

Long time no Blog!

I got this idea from fastpaleo.com, I have attempted several pizza ideas, Meatza from Marks Daily Apple and Mushroom Pizzas from Bodyrock but this one is the best so far.

1 Scoop out some courgette (zucchini if you are in the States).

2 Add your favorite Pizza topping, I used ham, pineapple, red onion, feta cheese and black olives.

3 Whack in the oven, the original recipe said 200 for 20 mins but I had to go a little hotter a the end (could just be my prehistoric oven).

Enjoy!

Hasta La Pasta Lasagne

Yum yum another test drive from the Everyday Paleo Cookbook.

everydaypaleo.com

Diet has been rubbish lately so its time to pull my finger out.

Subbed the olives for cheese, I am sure when the Fiance gets home from work she will appreciate this.

Will be cooking this again!

Crossfit and Pizza

Went to Crossfit Manchester this morning, nice now my OU course is over I actually have time.

WOD was:
Front squat 3 3 3 3 3
Just did 60kg, rather go light than get an injury until I am used to it.
Power snatch practice.

Then 400m 300m 200m 100m runs sprinkled with ball slams and knees to elbows.

I was pretty fast off the blocks but the knees to elbows destroyed me and I finished last!

Made these pizzas for lunch. Got the idea from Bodyrock but simplified it: Delicious-healthy-pizza-recipe

Stuck red onion, pineapple, gouda and ham on top of portabello mushrooms then shoved in the oven at 200c for 12 mins.

Lovely

Roadtest - Everyday Paleo Meatloaf

Ok, I finally got time to blog a recipe from Everyday Paleo.

I made the meatloaf, didn't have any majoram so subbed garam masala. Served with a side salad and some avocado. It was pretty nice, would make it again and lots left for breakfast.

I generally feel the book is a bit expensive, £17 for a paperback. I would however recommend it to someone who had never heard of paleo or functional exercise. Its a good way to start cleaning up your life without too much detail.

Stay tuned for some more recipes from the book.

Pork Carnitas

This was kind of from Civilizedcavemancooking.com but I didn't find that link until the pork was cooking! I made the BBQ sauce as well from http://www.sonofgrok.com.

Fried some asparagus with garlic and butter on the side. I thought the pork would last a couple of says but we have eaten most of it already!

Had a quick workout before, 1 lap Pose and some Tabata pull-ups press-ups and squats. Think I was leaning a little to far (from the waist), think I will try my VFF next or give up Pose until after the Summer Series.

Yum yum thanks Jayse.

Old Macdonalds Farm Burger

And on this farm he had some cows, pigs and chickens which Mick ate!

Everybody knows I love a good burger on a Friday.
Made my own again. I added chopped garlic and some turmeric to the mince beef this week.

For topping I added some bacon, emmental cheese! and fried eggs.

Served with mashed avocado and mushrooms.

Pretty amazing!

Closest I got to a workout was a walk up Bosley Cloud after work with Cavegirl.

Paleo Road Test : Sun Dried Tomato Chicken

Got this from Everyday Paleo Sun Dried Tomato Bake

Sautéed some leek and mushrooms to go with it.

Worked out ok, fresh basil would of been nicer. I guess we will have to plant some and wait.

Went for 40 min walk earlier and did some trigger point work.

Walk and Books

Got some new books, they have been on my shopping list for a while.

I have read most of The Primal Blueprint on a pdf and thought I should buy it. I like it so far, seems pretty simple and obvious. Not much of a surprise that our modern lifestyles are bad for us.

Just been for a 40 min walk, I am planning on trying running again after my ski trip so reckon the best way to prepare for regular running is regular walking. Sounds obvious. The base of the Primal Fitness Pyramid is "Move frequently at a slow pace" so I am planning a walk or swim everyday.

Cavegirl made butternut squash soup and we have a chicken to roast for dinner.

Fix yourself 2

Leave water in a polystyrene cup in the freezer.

Peel the cup back to reveal the ice.

Remember those spots on your injury that felt like a shamans blow?

Rub the ice on them, keep it moving. Rest if needed. The aim is to keep the skin red as long as possible.

Paleo Road Test - Barcelona Burger

Got this from http://www.paleodigest.com/ (again) from Crossfit Santa Cruz Central.

Served it with a chopped salad and yummy advocado drizzled with olive oil.

First time I made burgers, its usually Cavegirl's speciality. I borrowed her burger press thingy and they were really easy!  Added garlic, oregano and chilli flakes.

Time for a non paleo beer now!

Kicked out of the cave

I was kicked out of the cave this morning by cavegirl. She made me get up and go swimming. How mean!

Well I suppose I did ask her last night to make sure I got up.

After reading some of Mark Sissons Primal Blueprint I decided I need to be more active to help my body cope with sitting in a prison cell for 8 hours a day (office).

Got my breakfast at work, omelette with peppers, mushrooms and bacon on the side.

Cavegirl is at her workcave til late so I am planning a nice meal for when she gets home. I reckon burgers are always good on a friday.

Fix yourself

Daren't train much at the moment with skiing imminent so working on my niggles.

How to help your injuries.

Buy a lacrosse ball.
Roll it round the injured area.
Focus on the painful bits.
Hold pressure on the hotspots until the pain fades.
Roll along the muscle\tendon.
Roll perpendicular across really digging in.

Stretch then ice.

If it helps do it everyday, if it doesn't help don't do it again!

Myofascial release

Fridge Raiders

One of the great things about Paleo is you always end up with a freezer full of leftover "ready meals".

Today I had butternut squash soup, an everyday paleo burger and a salmon fishcake!

Friday Fun

Worked out in a rammed gym, was going to do some strength work, bench and shoulder press but no hope as other people were "working out" on the equipment.

So I did some olly lift work and failed to do anything right, even clean was rubbish! Quickly I devised:
4 x
250 row
10 reps each with 10kg dumbells
Deadlift
Front squat
Clean (not quite as in the animation above)
Press

16 mins 43 seconds

Cavegirl cooked tea:

City Slickers

Ok, I am off to the Big Smoke tomorrow, since I dont want to eat a vile bacon buttie or packed soggy cold sandwich so I have made my food for the day:
Brekky is leftover turkey, tenderstem broccoli and eggs.
Lunch is my usual turkey, pepper and paprika concoction.
Snacks are paleo macaroons and dark chocolate!

Will I survive on this or purchase something else?

Cavegirl Cook

Hurrah! Cavegirl made paleo coconut macaroons!
Google for a recipe, add cocoa or cinnamon if you fancy. Yum Yum

Took it easy.

Nice and easy today:

Usual warmup:

500 m row
3 x
10 press ups
10 back extensions
10 kipping pull ups
10 sit ups
10 bench dips
Samson stretch

OHS work.

Main session:
4 x
250 m row
10 x 12.5kg dumbell swings
10 x 20kg press

Dont know how long it took and dont care.
Cavegirl is cooking sweet and sour pork with stir fried veggies!

Having a kip

Your workout is my warmup

Visit to Crossfit Manchester http://crossfitmanchester.com/

Well done Tim! Got your kip!
Warmup was usual bodyweight stuff and some work on our kips:

Then we moved onto some work on our Snatch's

 then some cleans
 We attempted 5 5 5 5 5 front squats.

Knees to elbows
Then, we joined in the group workout which was:
6 x ( 5 knees to elbow and 15 wallballs)

Wall Ball
It was during the second round of wall ball that I had doubts that I would finish the WOD (workout of the day)! 15 reps was harsh , the last 5 were absolute misery on every set. Great!

If that wasn't enough we then had 3 x (5 single arm dumbell lunges each arm, 15 kettlebell swings).
Lunges

Kettlebell gurning
Not sure how long it took and don't care.

Applying  the 80/20 rule  I had fish chips and peas for tea!
